![]() ![]() I have a wire guage numbered drill set that's Titanium coated but only 118 degree. I figured I could start with thoes and follow with 3mm and 4mm if needed. Today I bought a 2.9mm and 3.9mm drill bit since they were only like ~$1.70 a piece. That's how I complied the list so far and thought it would be nice to have an easy to find list. More of piecing it together from many different places. It seems hard to find a complete list of correct bits needed for all the stuff in one place. I also thought if I can get this completed and verified then it will also be able to help others with the same situation. I have an AK builder gas port drill and my 74/5.45 barrels already have the gas port drilled. This list is mainly for the AKM right now, but besides the gas port and maybe some 4.5mm rivets it should apply to the 74 I think(?). I should have got it to begin with because it took a while the way I did it. Came out nice but was thinking of getting one anyway to finish them off. I drilled, dremeled and finished with rolled up sand paper and lapping compond in the drill press. Would I be better off going for a smaller sized carbide round burr? I don't want any more taken out from around the head, just under the head. It's the inside of the diviot I'm wondering about. Right now my diviots perfectly surround the out side of the head leaving no room for expansion, perfectly supporting the outside. I have already made every jig I need (I hope) and all the river diviots look good but I figured maybe I should just get either a ball end mill or carbide burr to ensure no halos. I want to make sure I don't have to go back after this next trip.Īlso what's the best size to drill out long rivets, 5/32? Or just 4mm, but regular rivets are larger than the center support so smaller is better right? Any smaller than 5/32.Īlso what's the best size ball end mill to use when making tools, 5/16? Is there a better or best size, does this leave metal surrounding the head of the rivet as support. I will be using the 1/4in end mill to drill barrel pin slot before the 6.5mm and reaming at 7mm for the barrel pin. It's hard finding metric drill bits, the normal places don't have them but this place has everything. I got a 1/4in center cutting end mill today and some bits. I am going to be making another trip to the "tool store" and want to make sure I get everything I need. I also would like to know what's the best size to use on the center support, I read 5/32, is that correct or is there a better size to use. I am trying to compile a correct list for all that's needed. I may just get the 2.9mm and 3.9mm bit too. I may need to go a tad bigger for the 3mm than 7/64. ![]() For the 3mm- 7/64 would get me to 2.7788 and for the 4mm the 5/32 could get me to 3.9675mm. I think I may have to drill slightly under size and try, then can always chase with the 3mm and 4mm. But the polish shells need them so here I am.ĭoes that seem right? Will I have an issue with a nice press fit for the FSB and GB pins using a 3mm or do I need to go smaller, same with the RSB at 4mm. But my guess is most people haven't ever drilled slector holes. Left side slector (small connecting hole)- still working on this one but gonna guess 5mm?īut according to one of the receiver diagrams after conversion Left side slector(large hole)- 10mm ( have step drill for this one) Right side slector- 5mm (will use 5mm reamer after 4.5mm) I'll throw this in there too for the slector hole sizes: Right side axis pin holes- 4.5mm reamed to 5mm Left side axis pin hole- 6.5mm reamed to 7mm I have come up with a small list and was hoping someone could help me out on the list.
